Another hurricane has passed through Orlando. Fortunately it weakened before it got here and the winds were about 70 miles per hours. Several houses in my neighborhood flooded, but my house had no damage. My electricity and internet blinked for a couple of seconds but held on. I am really lucky.
Some of my students were not so lucky. UCF intervened and sent out names of students who had been flooded out and would not be fully functional at this point. Of course,, I will do whatever I can to help them.
Now that challenge is to make up the material and end the semester having done justice to the courses. We were closed for six days, and this has an impact on the material covered.
I grew up in Miami and experienced a lot of bad hurricanes. I feel lucky that here in Orlando the hurricanes are usually much weaker. But onward and upward to finish the semester.
